6. Things to know about
Legal costs
Fees for the lawyer's services vary from firm to firm and area
to area. It is wise to get a written quotation in advance so that
there are no surprises later. Remember the cheapest is not necessarily
the best, so when choosing a lawyer, don't let price alone be your
guide. The disbursements are those costs the lawyer incurs on your
behalf throughout the transaction. Generally in a sale transaction
these costs are between $150.00 and $200.00. On a purchase transaction
the disbursements will include the cost of register documents, title
searches, land transfer tax and other miscellaneous costs and can
easily add up to over $500.00 plus the lawyers fee and GST. Again
it is wise to have the lawyer provide a written estimate of these
costs in advance.
